Outstanding Educator
A memorial for baseball great Jackie Robinson reads as follows; "One life is not important except for the effect it has on the lives of others." The Outstanding Educator Honor Roll was established with that
statement in mind.
Any member of the Lorain City School family, past or present, can be recognized and have their name added to the Honor Roll Plaque. That plaque is currently located just inside the front entrance to the Charleston Admin Center on Pole Avenue.
Any individual, group of individuals or organization can add someone to the Honor Roll by completing an application and making a gift of $100 or more to the Lorain Fund for Enhancing Education.
The Enhancement Fund is an endowment fund with assets in excess of $1,000,000. It is part of the family of funds managed by The Community Foundation of Greater Lorain County. It was established in 1982 and was the first school endowment fund in the United States to become part of a Community Foundation.
Each year an allocation is made from the fund and that money is available for educational projects in Lorain City Schools not funded by general fund revenues. Because it is an endowment fund only the interest earned on contributions can be spent. This means that gifts made to the fund just keep on giving. Gifts generally qualify for an itemized deduction for federal income taxes.
